John Cashman moved to Texas in 1990 after being recruited by the Dallas Police Department. He worked as a Dallas Police officer for the next 13 years as a first-watch patrolman in South-Dallas. Mr. Cashman was selected as a field training officer with the duty of training new recruits. This entailed not only teaching recruit-officers how to conduct themselves and perform as a police officer in some of the most dangerous areas of the city; but also in educating the recruits as to the limits of their authority under Texas law. It was during this time that Mr. Cashman made several realizations: 1) there truly are situations where good people end up in the wrong place at the wrong time and are charged with crimes; 2) that police officers are human and frequently don't know all the facts; and finally 3) that far too many police officers are unfamiliar with the legal limits of their powers within the criminal law.

Mr. Cashman attended Texas Wesleyan School of Law and was a member of the Texas Wesleyan Law Review while in attendance. He received his law degree in 2002 and was admitted to the state bar of Texas in 2003.

Mr. Cashman went in to private practice from July of 2003 through October of 2008. During that period of time Mr. Cashman practiced as a criminal defense attorney in Dallas, Tarrant, and Denton Counties. Other areas of practice included estate planning, probate, bankruptcy, and family law.

Mr. Cashman is located in the Grand Prairie office. He enjoys using his knowledge of police tactics and thinking to look for weaknesses in the states case. Mr. Cashman feels he is ideally suited to read between the lines of the police report to determine what really may have occurred on any given arrest; to discover any police misconduct; and to ensure the rights of the accused were protected at every stage of the criminal process.
